How we began?
HRP Mamas was established in 2004 by a group of first time mothers who met through a new mothers support group led by Manon Chevallerau and sponsored by Tribeca Pediatrics. The bond this small group of moms shared was a positive and joyous one. The experience of finding other neighborhood moms with which to share this special moment and make lasting friendships helped us forge a community of support. Inspired by the desire to pass on this supportive experience to others, HRP Mamas transformed itself in to a non profit organization. The group rapidly grew from 8 moms to over 1500 in only 6 years!
Why HRP Mamas?
HRP Mamas understands that those first few months as a new mother can feel isolating. We also know that moving to a new neighborhood can sometimes feel lonely. Making friends with other mothers who share common experiences and setting up play dates for your children can help foster a sense of community. Our goal at HRP Mamas is to connect mothers in Lower Manhattan to one another long before (as well as after) they join the PTA. We have many members who join while pregnant and connect with other neighborhood moms with similar due dates before their babies are even born!
Our Mission?
To foster community and provide a network of support to mothers by other mothers both online and in person. We do this by providing our members with an informative and supportive message board through which neighborhood moms may exchange information, find out about local resources, ask for advice, set up playgroups, and connect with one another through various local events. Our message boards and their archives are a fantastic resource. Unlike many other message boards our members are not anonymous to one another, they are all registered members of our organization and verified local mothers: this combination makes for an intimate and respectful environment fostering friendship and community without anonymity.
In addition to our online network, The Playgroup committee provides members with volunteer opportunities to host weekly mothers' meetings and playgroups. The Social Committee hosts social events for mamas only such as a monthly "Mama Margarita Night" and other neighborhood events.
All our playgroups are volunteer led and organized. If you have free time please consider volunteering on our playgroup committee. It's a great way to get to know other mothers.
The Hudson River Park Mothers Group is a 501(c)(3) non profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors.
